GIS PTSO Officers Needed for 2013-14

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahamatullahi wa barakatuhu dearest Granada parents,

We are looking to jumpstart our PTSO for the upcoming 2013-2014 year, and need some parents who will help lead this wonderful organization.  The PTSO plays an important role to facilitate communication between the teachers and the GIS parent body.  It is a way for parents to shape some of the student activities and support the school for improvement.  Previously, PTSO has been involved activities such as the Eid celebration, field trips to the Tech Museum for the1001 Muslim Inventions, talent shows, room parents, and the walkathon.  Please consider taking a leadership role in this organization.  We would like to finalize our officers in this upcoming month of May, so if you would be interested to lead the PTSO, please contact Michelle Lee at michellel@granadaschool.org.  I guarantee that this will be a rewarding experience for you.  We look forward to increasing overall parent participation, so the burden of work shall not fall on any one person, inshaAllah!

Jazakum Allahu Khairun!

Dear parents,
Assalam alaikum! It was nice seeing all the parents who came to Conference Day last Monday. If you did not make it, please pick up your child's report card from the office. The school will mail the remaining report cards on Monday, April 15.

Starting this Friday, 5th to 8th grade students will have their lunch on the picnic tables in the playground area. Students will not be able to go to Crescent Cuisine to purchase lunch. The cafeteria is packed on Fridays, and students end up spending their 15-min lunch time waiting for their food. Please ensure students bring their lunch from home.

Spring picture day is Thursday, April 18. All students will be sent to the photographer, unless they bring a  "No Picture" note from parents. Uniform is not required for students who want their picture taken. There is no payment required until you receive the photos.

Mashallah about 260 Granadians signed-up for the Quran Competition. The competition will take place over 2 days on May 1st and May 2nd. Best of luck to all participants.

Yesterday was the deadline for 2013-14 registration. Ninety percent of eligible students registered. We are also in the process of accepting new student registration.

I would like to remind you that the school is closed next week for Spring Break from April 8 to 12. When we come back from the break, I would like to request that students are dropped off between 7:45 and 7:55am. I am noticing more students are arriving late between 8:00 and 8:10. Please help your child start class on time by dropping him/her at 7:45.

Have a wonderful break!

Sincerely,
Nihad Mourad
